These are the rules-of-combat questions that players in a private PvP community ask most often: why numbers look different against players, what actually stops a crit, and how to get out of crowd control. We grouped duplicates, dropped opinion and banter, rewrote every question in our own words and answered each one from the data we hold. Nobody's message is quoted and no person or group is named. Where a number is in our data we say so; where it is how players tend to use something, we mark it community; where we could not verify it, we mark it unconfirmed.

What is Battle Spirit and what does it change?

What does Battle Spirit actually do? It is the buff every player gets in PvP combat. Our mechanics data records three effects: you take 50% less damage, you receive 55% less healing, and your health recovery is reduced by 50%.

Where does Battle Spirit apply? In all PvP: Cyrodiil, Imperial City, battlegrounds and duels. It is not a Cyrodiil-only rule.

Is there a range bonus too? Yes, but only in Cyrodiil. Abilities with a range of 28 meters or more gain +8 meters there. In battlegrounds and duels your ranges are the same as in PvE.

Why does my healing feel so weak in PvP? Because healing is cut harder than damage: 55% against 50%. That gap is why PvP players value Health, Resistance and damage shields over raw healing power, and why sets that turn heals into group buffs, such as Rallying Cry, are popular.

How do critical hits and critical resistance work against players?

How much crit chance do I get from Critical rating? About 219 rating per 1% in our reference data, on top of a 10% base chance.

How high can critical damage go? Base critical damage is +50%, so a crit hits for 1.5 times the normal amount. The cap is +125% in total. Anything above that is wasted.

What does Critical Resistance do? It lowers the critical damage you take from players. You can build it from the Impenetrable armor trait, which adds 132 Critical Resistance per piece in our data, and from the Resilience Champion Point star, which gives 132 per stage up to 660.

Is there a set that swings crit resistance? Farstrider lowers the enemy's Critical Resistance by 40% and raises yours by the same amount for 10 seconds when you hit them with a Blink, Charge, Leap, Teleport or Pull. Rallying Cry gives your group up to 986 Critical Resistance when your heals crit under Battle Spirit.

How do penetration and resistance work in PvP?

How does penetration work? It lowers the target's Physical or Spell Resistance one for one. If they have 30,000 Resistance and you have 10,000 penetration, your hits treat them as having 20,000.

Is there a PvP penetration target like the PvE one? No fixed number. The often-quoted figure of about 18,200 is a PvE boss resistance value. Players build different amounts of Resistance, so the right penetration in PvP depends on who you fight.

Which mundus stones affect this? The Lover adds penetration and The Lady adds resistance. Our reference data lists 2744 for each at base, or 4489 with the Divines trait on all seven armor pieces.

Which sets add burst penetration? Balorgh grants penetration equal to 23 times the Ultimate you spent, for 12 seconds. That is why burst builds pair it with a big ultimate.

How do I break free, and which stars help?

Why do I get stunned so often? PvP is full of crowd control: fears, stuns, knockdowns and roots. Breaking free costs Stamina, and once you break free you are briefly immune to more disables.

What does Slippery do? It automatically breaks you free from a disable at no cost, then leaves you Winded for 21 seconds, so it can only save you every so often.

Which other stars change break free? Defiance cuts the break-free Stamina cost by 110 per stage, up to 220. Unchained makes your next Stamina ability within 5 seconds of a break free cost 11% less per stage, up to 55%.

Do these work in battlegrounds? No. Champion Points are disabled in battlegrounds, so all three stars are off there.

Which defensive stars and buffs matter most in PvP?

What do Ironclad and Duelist's Rebuff do? Ironclad lowers direct damage taken by 3% per stage, up to 6%. Duelist's Rebuff lowers single-target damage taken by 3% per stage, up to 6%. Both stack on top of Battle Spirit.

Which buffs protect me best? Major Protection lowers the damage you take, and it comes from many PvP tools, including the werewolf Pack Leader ultimate and the back bar of Monomyth Reforged. Major Resolve raises your Physical and Spell Resistance.

Which buffs raise my damage? Major Berserk raises damage done and comes from the Werewolf Berserker ultimate. Major Force raises critical damage and comes from the front bar of Monomyth Reforged.

Which armor and jewelry traits help in PvP?

What does the Impenetrable trait do? Our reference data lists +132 Critical Resistance per piece and 50% less durability damage. Five or seven pieces of it is a common way to cut the critical damage players deal to you.

What about Reinforced and Defending? Reinforced raises the armor value of the piece by 16%. Defending is a weapon trait that adds 1638 Physical and Spell Resistance, or 3276 on a two-handed weapon. Both add resistance, which penetration then has to get through.

Why do some builds use the Infused trait? It raises the enchantment effect by 30% and halves the enchantment cooldown. On a weapon or jewelry that makes the enchant matter more in short fights.

Should I mix traits? Many PvP builds do. A few Impenetrable pieces for crit resistance plus Reinforced or Divines on the rest is a common way to balance defence with a stronger mundus stone. Our reference data lists The Lady at 2744 resistance, or 4489 with Divines on all seven pieces.

How fast can I move in PvP?

Is there a movement speed cap? Yes. Our data puts it at 200% movement speed.

How much do the speed buffs give? Major Expedition gives 30% and Minor Expedition gives 15%. Sprinting gives 40%. The Hasty Champion Point star adds 2% sprint speed per stage.

Do speed buffs stack? Major and Minor Expedition stack with each other and with sprint, up to the 200% cap. Two Major Expedition sources do not stack with each other.

Why does speed matter so much? In Cyrodiil, escaping a fight you cannot win is often worth more than another hit. Players describe speed as defence.

What do players get wrong about PvP numbers?community

Can I compare my PvE damage numbers to PvP? Not directly. Battle Spirit halves damage taken, players stack Critical Resistance and Resistance, and nobody stands still. A build that tops a PvE chart can feel weak against players.

Are tooltip values the real PvP values? Most tooltips show the PvE number. Some set texts say an effect is reduced against players; Maarselok and the werewolf bleeds are examples. Read the set and skill pages for the exact wording.

Where can I check a number before I trust it? Every value on this page comes from our mechanics, reference and Champion Point data. If the game changes it in a patch, the data changes first.

Battle Spirit means 50% less damage taken and 55% less healing received in every kind of PvP, plus +8 meters of range in Cyrodiil only. Crit resistance fights crit damage, penetration lowers resistance one for one, and break free is a Stamina tax that Champion Points soften everywhere except battlegrounds.
