This page is built from 160 real questions ESO players posted about the Warden on the official forums. We grouped the duplicates, answered the distinct ones, and stuck to the skill and set data we can verify — when a number isn't in our extracts, we answer qualitatively rather than invent one.

The class in one breath

"What is the role of the warden?" and "what class or role is best suited for warden?" — Warden is a full three-role class. Its three skill lines split cleanly: Animal Companions is the damage line (Dive, Scorch, Swarm, plus the bear ultimate Feral Guardian), Green Balance is the healing line (Fungal Growth, Healing Seed, Lotus Flower, the Secluded Grove ultimate), and Winter's Embrace is the frost/tank line (Frost Cloak grants Major Resolve, Impaling Shards, Crystallized Shield, the Sleet Storm ultimate). Whatever role you want, one of those three lines is your spine.

"Is warden a good starting class?" and "where to start with a new bosmer warden?" — Yes. It's beginner-friendly because it carries its own strong self-heal (Arctic Wind) and a resource/damage buff netch on demand, so you rarely stall out while learning. Level all three lines a little; you'll want passives from each.

"Questions about the warden class" broadly: the class has strong sustain and survivability tools but has historically been criticized for burst and hard crowd control, which we'll cover below.

"Ideas to make warden more interesting to play" and "how can I make my warden better" — the honest lever is stacking status effects. The Class Mastery passives (Wild Adaptation, Green-Keeper's Hide, Tundra's Maw) reward having many status effects on the target, so a build that spreads Chill, bleeds and poisons plays very differently from a plain rotation.

The bear — every bear question

"How do I get my bear pet?" and "how do I get rid of the bear pet?" — The bear is the Feral Guardian ultimate in the Animal Companions line, learned at level 12. You summon it by casting the ultimate; you dismiss it by unslotting the ultimate (or slotting a different one and recasting). It is not a permanent companion pet, it's a summoned ultimate.

"Why does my bear disappear sometimes mid fight?", "why isn't my bear respawning?", "question about bear being dismissed on warden", and "is something broken with magicka warden" — The bear despawns if you unslot Feral Guardian, swap it off both bars, or it dies. The key detail: only the Eternal Guardian morph respawns the bear when it's killed, once per minute. The base Feral Guardian and the Wild Guardian morph do not auto-respawn, so if you took those and the bear died, you must resummon it.

"Eternal guardian versus wild guardian which is better?" and "should I use the bear ultimate on warden?" and "should I use the bear ultimate?" — Eternal Guardian is the reliability pick: it deals 150% more damage to enemies below 25% Health with Guardian's Wrath and respawns once per minute. Wild Guardian converts to Bleed Damage and has a higher chance to apply Hemorrhaging, favoring stamina/bleed builds. Because the ultimate persists once summoned, many builds keep it slotted for the passive presence and dump other ultimates for burst.

"What stats affect warden bear damage?" — Feral Guardian is a Magic Damage ultimate on its base and Eternal morphs, so it scales with your offensive stats like any class ability. Wild Guardian is Bleed Damage. We don't have a published scaling formula in our data, so build for whichever damage type your bear morph uses.

"Why does warden bear not taunt?" — The bear has no taunt in its ability text; it is a damage pet, not a tanking tool. Don't rely on it to hold aggro.

"Should I use the bear ultimate on warden" for burst — note Guardian's Wrath (base) does 100% more damage below 25% Health, giving the bear a soft execute role.

Do bear/pet effects proc your sets?community

Several threads ask whether external effects apply to the bear's hits. "Does backstabber work with the warden bear?", "does blooddrinker set affect warden pets?", "does warden bear work with necromancer sets?", and "do warden bear attacks trigger melee effects?" — These are all interaction questions our extracts don't confirm, and pet/proc interactions in ESO have changed across patches. The stable, honest answer: pet damage does not consistently trigger player-centric on-hit effects, and interactions vary by the specific set's condition (some check the caster, some check the damage source). Test in a target-dummy parse rather than assuming — and re-verify after any patch.

"Do all warden animal skills count as pets?" and "does warden bear and sorcerer pets health regen on console?" — Only the bear is a persistent summoned entity; Dive, Scorch, Swarm and the netch are cast abilities that summon a creature for a single effect, not standing pets. Whether pet health regenerates is a mechanics detail that has differed by patch and is not in our data — check current in-game behavior.

Magicka Warden: frost mage and DPS

"How do I play magicka warden?", "how to dps as a magicka warden?", "can you help with magicka warden damage dealer?" and "how to raise damage on magicka warden?" — Core magicka rotation tools: Scorch/Deep Fissure (a delayed AoE that also applies Major and Minor Breach on the Deep Fissure morph), Swarm/Fetcher Infection (a strong single-target DoT — Fetcher Infection deals 60% increased damage on every second cast), Dive/Screaming Cliff Racer for spammable damage and a Weapon/Spell Damage buff, and Betty Netch (Blue Betty morph restores 4416 Magicka over 25 seconds) for Major Brutality and Sorcery plus sustain.

"How to build a warden frost mage", "how to maximize a pure frost magicka warden", and "what is the current magicka warden ice build?" — Build around Piercing Cold (increases Frost Damage by 15%), Glacial Presence (boosts Chill chance and Chill damage), and the Class Mastery passive Tundra's Maw, which makes applying Chill also apply Major Brittle for 2 seconds (20% increased Critical Damage taken). Winter's Revenge deals 30% more damage with a Destruction Staff equipped, so a frost destro pairs naturally.

"What trait on destruction staff for magicka warden dps?" and "what weapons for a magicka warden" — We don't publish trait recommendations in this dataset; the well-known standard is a damage-oriented trait for a DPS staff. Use a frost staff if you're leaning into the frost passives above.

"Can you make a magicka warden build without the bear?" — Absolutely. Swap Feral Guardian for the Sleet Storm ultimate (Northern Storm ramps your damage done as it holds) and run Scorch, Swarm, Dive as your damage core.

"Question about warden's dive morphs" — Screaming Cliff Racer grants +100 Weapon and Spell Damage on hit, quadrupled against Off Balance enemies (and Dive sets targets Off Balance from 7+ meters). Cutting Dive is the stamina/bleed morph.

"Question about warden's glacial presence" — it raises your chance to apply the Chilled status effect by 250% and adds 105 damage that scales off your higher Weapon or Spell Damage.

"Can wardens green lotus critically heal?" — Lotus Flower and its Green Lotus morph grant Major Prophecy and Savagery (spell/weapon crit). Whether the light-attack heal itself crits isn't stated in the ability text; the buff means your other heals crit more.

Stamina Warden: DPS, bow, and leveling

"Is a stamina warden viable?", "is it good that I kept my stamina warden?", "what is the meta for stamina warden dps?" and "are magicka wardens weak in pve?" — Stamina Warden is a fully viable damage build. Its stamina morphs are Cutting Dive (bleed), Subterranean Assault (poison AoE), Growing Swarm (bleed DoT with a splash), and Bull Netch (restores 4416 Stamina over 25 seconds plus Major Brutality). We don't publish live meta parse numbers, so treat 'meta' as: bleed-heavy setups that lean on Wild Guardian's bleed bear.

"What skills to level as a leveling stamina warden" and "which weapons are best for leveling a stamina damage dealer warden" — Slot Animal Companions abilities early so the line levels while you fight; Betty Netch is available at 30 and Bull Netch gives you sustain plus a damage buff. For weapons, dual wield or bow are the common stamina choices; use what you enjoy since both level from use.

"Anyone run a stamina warden with bow and the bear?", "which is better for solo stamina warden or stamina nightblade?", "help me fix my stamina bow warden build", "which set combination for a two hander bow stamina warden", and "help with a two hander bow stamina warden build" — A two-hander front bar / bow back bar with Wild Guardian and Growing Swarm is a popular, workable frame. We don't recommend specific sets by name here beyond what our data confirms, so build for max stamina, weapon damage, and crit.

"Is 20k stamina enough on a stamina warden non cp build?" — There's no fixed threshold in our data; 20k is a low-to-moderate pool. Non-CP prioritizes flat stats, so pair it with strong recovery — Flourish gives +20% Magicka and Stamina recovery.

"Should I use magicka skills on a stamina warden?" — Yes, sparingly. Netch, the bear, and Frost Cloak cost 0 or scale off health, so they're 'free' regardless of your stat spread.

Tanking: is it viable, and how it compares

"Is a stamina warden tank viable?", "advice on a warden pvp tank", and "what warden setup is tanky enough with sword and board and still deals damage?" — Warden tanks with Winter's Embrace. Frost Cloak / Ice Fortress grants Major Resolve (5948 resistance) and Ice Fortress adds Minor Protection. Frozen Armor adds up to 1240 resistance per slotted Winter's Embrace ability, and Piercing Cold increases blocked damage by 8%. Impaling Shards/Gripping Shards gives a self-scaling AoE plus a snare and (on Gripping) an immobilize.

"What makes dragonknight better than warden at tanking?" and "can warden tanks be as effective as dragonknight tanks in veteran trials?" — The recurring community view is that Warden tanks are trial-viable but historically trail DK on self-sustain and free class utility. Warden's advantages are strong group buffs (Frost Cloak resistance, Sleet Storm's Major Protection) and self-healing via Arctic Wind. We don't have comparative parse data — the honest answer is 'yes, viable; DK offers more built-in tank sustain.'

"Where do I put attributes for a warden tank in pve?", "where should a magicka warden healer put attributes?" and "what skills for a hybrid high regen warden tank?" — Tanks go heavily into Health; a high-regen hybrid tank leans on Flourish (+20% recovery) and Winter's Embrace slotting. We don't publish exact attribute splits, so tune to survive your content.

"Does bastion affect the winters embrace tree for warden?" — Bastion boosts damage shields. Crystallized Shield (and morphs) is a projectile-absorbing shield in Winter's Embrace, so the Bastion CP interacts with that shield specifically. We can't confirm every skill it touches, so verify the tooltip in-game.

"Has anyone done a magicka warden tank with frost staff?" and "help with hrothgars chill tank magicka warden" — A frost-staff tank leans into Chill (Glacial Presence, Tundra's Maw's Major Brittle) to buff your group's crit while you hold aggro. Winter's Revenge does 30% more with a destro staff equipped.

"Does the magicka warden have an execute?" and "does warden have an execute?" and "what execute skill to use with warden" — Warden has no dedicated class execute skill; the closest is the bear's Guardian's Wrath, which deals 100–150% more damage below 25% Health. Otherwise use a weapon-line execute.

Healing: viability, sets, and skills

"Is warden healer as good as templar healer for endgame?" and "advice for a warden healer" — Warden is a top-tier healer. Green Balance is dense: Fungal Growth/Enchanted Growth (burst heal + Minor Intellect/Endurance), Healing Seed variants (Corrupting Pollen adds Major Defile to enemies), Living Vines (reactive heal-on-hit), and Lotus Flower for passive light-attack healing. Maturation grants Minor Toughness (+10% Max Health) on any heal, and Bountiful Harvest can share Major Heroism.

"Sentinel of rkugamz or symphony of blades for a warden healer?" — Both are sustain-oriented monster sets; the choice depends on whether your group needs the Rkugamz healing/resource dwarven spider or Symphony's magicka restore. Our data doesn't include those sets, so pick based on your group's sustain needs.

"Is wardens minor toughness fixed in clockwork city?" — Minor Toughness comes from the Maturation passive (+10% Max Health for 20s on activating a heal). Historical bug status isn't in our data; the current passive text is what applies now.

"Tanky healer setup for magicka warden" and "help with warden tank healing build" and "help with warden healing build" — Blend Green Balance heals with Winter's Embrace defense: Frost Cloak for group resistance, Arctic Wind/Polar Wind for big self and ally heals, and the Secluded Grove line for a group ultimate. Polar Wind scales off Max Health, which rewards a tanky healer.

"How many wardens do you have in your trial group?" — This is a group-composition question, not a mechanics one; there's no cap and it depends on your raid's buff coverage.

PvP: builds, burst, and fighting Wardens

"Looking for advice to improve magicka warden pvp", "is magicka warden viable in pvp", "how to pvp on a stamina warden", and "guide on how to play stamina warden in pvp" — Warden PvP leans on strong sustain and defensive tools: Arctic Blast (a Frost heal/stun morph of Arctic Wind), Crystallized Slab (projectile shield that returns stuns), Frost Cloak resistance, and Frozen Gate/Device for control. Netch gives passive Major Brutality/Sorcery without a costly buff cast.

"Why does magicka warden have no crowd control?", "how to give wardens hard crowd control", and "is there a disorient skill for magicka warden?" — This is the long-standing complaint. Warden's hard CC is limited: Gripping Shards immobilizes, Frozen Gate/Device immobilizes on trigger, Crystallized Slab and Arctic Blast stun. There is no class disorient; you supplement with weapon-line CC.

"How did a warden hit me for 16k?" and "where do wardens get their burst from?" — Warden burst typically stacks a delayed hit (Deep Fissure/Scorch resurfaces for a big second hit) with the bear's Guardian's Wrath execute and a weapon burst, all under Northern Storm's ramping damage. Our data doesn't attribute any single 16k number, so treat that as a combined burst window.

"Advice for my pvp stamina warden werewolf build" and "advice for a low level bosmer stamina werewolf warden in battlegrounds" — Werewolf transforms replace your class bars, so a WW Warden mostly uses Warden for its human-form utility (Netch, Frost Cloak). See our werewolf guide for the transform side.

"How to beat a warden", "how to deal with frost wardens", and "how to avoid wildfire from brimstone wardens" — Against player Wardens, pressure through their heals (Major Defile helps), avoid standing in Impaling Shards/Winter's Revenge, and don't feed Crystallized Shield with projectiles. 'Brimstone warden' wildfire refers to a PvE mob mechanic — sidestep the telegraph.

"Can zenimax balance pvp warden and pvp templar" and "can wardens crit heal" style balance questions are opinion territory we won't fake data on.

"What ultimate for stamina warden pvp?" — Wild Guardian (bleed bear) or Sleet Storm's Permafrost (70% snare) are common picks depending on whether you want pressure or control.

Solo, sets, skill books, and the odds and ends

"Can a magicka warden solo imperial city bosses?", "what weapons for a solo warden", and "are necromancer and warden good for cyrodiil solo play?" — Warden solos well thanks to self-healing (Arctic Wind), the bear as a persistent attacker, and Living Vines for reactive healing. A two-bar setup with a sustain weapon works; Warden's built-in heals mean you don't need a healer role to survive.

"How many players does lord warden affect?" — The Lord Warden monster set's shadow orb increases Physical and Spell Resistance for you and group members within 8 meters (73–3180 resistance), on a 10-second cooldown when you take damage.

"Are the warden skill books only in vvardenfell?" and "where is the morrowind dlc and warden upgrade in crown store?" — The Warden class arrived with Morrowind. The class was later included in the base game / ESO Plus depending on your account; check the in-game Crown Store 'Upgrades' section for current availability, as store layout changes over time.

"Is there a website with up to date warden skill descriptions?" — Our skill pages are generated from data extracts and dated; that's exactly what this dataset feeds. Always check the 'updated' date on any reference.

"Is the warden refresh still coming in q3?" — We don't have patch-roadmap data, so we can't confirm a schedule; treat any date as unconfirmed until ZeniMax posts it.

"What class plays like a magicka bear warden?" and "best pet class sorcerer warden or necromancer" — For pet-forward gameplay, Sorcerer (permanent daedric pets) is the closest fantasy; Warden's 'pet' is really the single bear ultimate. With subclassing now in the game, you can also mix lines across classes — see our subclassing guide.

Naming, lore and cosmetic threads — "which is the better warden name", "what class symbol is this warden", "how many wardens are there", "why couldn't we be lord warden dusk" — these are personal/lore questions with no mechanical answer; enjoy the roleplay.
