ESO Subclassing Explained: Do You Lose Your Class Skills?

What subclassing does

Subclassing allows players to mix skill lines from different classes in The Elder Scrolls Online. Each class has three unique skill lines, and with subclassing, you can replace up to two of your original class's skill lines with those from other classes. However, you must retain at least one skill line from your original class.

For example, a Templar can keep one of their Templar skill lines while selecting two lines from other classes like Nightblade or Sorcerer. It's important to note that you cannot take two lines from the same class; you can only borrow one line from each other class.

Do you lose your own skills?

No, you do not lose your original class skills when you subclass. You retain the abilities from the skill line you choose to keep. This means that subclassing enhances your character's versatility without sacrificing your class identity.

How to unlock subclassing

Subclassing was introduced in Update 46, and players can access it once they reach level 50. To subclass, you need to have at least one character at level 50, and you can then choose to subclass when you create a new character or when you reach the appropriate level with an existing character.
