This hub is built from 317 real Templar questions mined from the official ESO forums, grouped into themes and answered once per distinct question. Where a specific number exists in verified ability data we cite it; where it doesn't, we answer qualitatively rather than guess. Nothing here invents stats.

"What is the Templar?" — the class in one screen

"What is Templar?" and "what are the strengths of the Templar?" The class is built on three skill lines: Aedric Spear (melee and burst damage), Dawn's Wrath (ranged magic damage plus the class execute), and Restoring Light (healing and defense). Its strengths are strong single-target healing, a powerful sub-33% execute, and self-sustain baked into morphs.

"How does the Restoring Light tree work?" It's the healing line — Rushed Ceremony (a burst heal), Cleansing Ritual (a purge plus ground heal), Rune Focus (Major Resolve and a healing rune), Restoring Aura (recovery buffs), and the Rite of Passage ultimate (channeled group heal). Passives like Mending increase your healing done by up to 13% scaling with how wounded the target is.

"Which class skill lines cover what?" If you want to understand Templar next to the others, our classes overview goes wider; for a single-class picture, this page is the reference.

Race and attributescommunity

"What is the best race for a Templar?" and "what is the optimal race for a magicka Templar?" There is no single mandatory race. For magicka DPS, high-elf and dark-elf are common picks; for stamina, orc, redguard, and khajiit are strong; Breton is a sustain-and-survivability favorite; Argonian is prized for healing. "Is Imperial a good race for a Templar?" "Is Imperial Templar healer viable?" Imperial's stat bonuses are generalist and perfectly playable, just not the pure min-max choice — role and content matter more than race for everything below endgame trifectas.

"Does the Dark Elf fire bonus apply to Templar sun spells?" Dark Elf's flame-damage passive applies to Flame-typed damage. Sun Fire and its morphs deal Flame Damage, so they benefit; most of the Aedric Spear kit deals Magic Damage and does not. "Which Templar skills benefit from the Dunmer flame passive?" — the same answer: Sun Fire, Reflective Light, and Vampire's Bane, since those tooltips list Flame Damage.

"Need advice on attribute ratios / how to balance attributes for a PvP tank." For a DPS, most players go all-in on their damage resource. Healers and tanks split toward Health for survivability. There's no published universal ratio — build to hit a comfortable Health pool for the content, then dump the rest into your main resource.

Magicka Templar DPS

"How should a magicka Templar rotation look?" "Can you help with magicka Templar DPS?" The core loop is: apply Sun Fire (3470 Flame Damage over 20 seconds and Major Savagery/Prophecy), keep Puncturing Sweep or Solar Barrage rolling for class-ability damage, use Backlash/Purifying Light for the delayed burst, then finish with Radiant Oppression once the target drops below 40% Health. Between those, weave light attacks.

"Are Templar Jabs considered AoE?" "How much does Templar Jabs hit for?" Puncturing Strikes hits up to 6 enemies in front of you three times, so yes — it's a frontal cone AoE. The base morph deals 889 Magic Damage per strike; Puncturing Sweep raises that to 919 per strike and heals you for 25% of the damage done. "What buffs / champion points Templar Jabs?" Any modifier that boosts your class or Magic damage feeds Jabs — the Aedric Spear Burning Light passive also procs off it, dealing 500 Magic Damage after 4 stacks.

"Crit vs spell damage for magicka Templar PvE DPS?" Both matter and interact; there's no single published break-point, so build toward the standard endgame buff set (Major Sorcery, Major Prophecy) and let group buffs plus your gear decide the balance rather than stacking one to the exclusion of the other. "Is there a spell and weapon damage buff for Templars?" Yes — Biting Jabs grants Major Brutality and Major Sorcery (+20% Weapon/Spell Damage) on cast, and the Bright Harbinger passive can grant allies 300 Weapon and Spell Damage.

"How strong are magicka Templars and can they work as ranged PvE?" They can, but the class is happiest in melee range because Jabs is the strongest spammable. A ranged magplar leans on Sun Fire, Solar Flare/Dark Flare, Backlash, and the execute — viable, just lower ceiling than the melee version.

Stamina Templar and hybrids

"How does a stamina Templar work?" It swaps Magicka morphs for Stamina ones — Biting Jabs (Physical Damage, plus Major Brutality/Sorcery), Power of the Light for the execute-style burst, and Restoring Focus for a Stamina-returning Rune Focus. "How to get past 20k DPS / what am I doing wrong with my stamina Templar DPS?" Almost always the fix is tighter light-attack weaving, keeping your damage-over-time uptime high, and not clipping Jabs early. "Is 50k DPS possible on a 6-million dummy with stamina Templar?" With full endgame gear, buffs, and clean weaving, high numbers are achievable — but a specific ceiling isn't something we'll quote as a fixed figure, since it depends entirely on your setup and patch.

"Which is better for PvE and PvP, stamina Templar or stamina Dragonknight?" Both are strong; Templar brings a better ranged execute and self-heals through Sweeps, Dragonknight brings more raw AoE and defense. Pick on playstyle, not a tier list. "Should magicka Templars spam Repentance if there's a stamina Templar in the group?" "Can stamina Templars share Repentance corpses?" Repentance consumes nearby corpses to heal allies and restore Stamina to the caster — corpses are a shared resource, so two Templars competing for the same bodies wastes them. Coordinate who runs it.

"Do stamina Templars still use Breath of Life to self-heal?" Breath of Life is a Magicka-cost heal, so a stamina build usually prefers Honor the Dead or Rushed Ceremony situationally; many stamina Templars lean on Puncturing Sweep and Restoring Focus for sustain instead. "Would an Argonian Templar hybrid be viable?" Hybrid builds work fine now that Biting Jabs buffs both damage types — Argonian's sustain and healing bonuses suit it well.

Templar healing

"Are Templar healers viable in trifecta content?" "Can a Templar tank trials / can Templars tank trials?" — Templar healing is a benchmark in ESO, absolutely viable at the highest level thanks to Cleansing Ritual, Rite of Passage, and strong burst healing. "Is Templar the only good healer?" No — but it's the default comparison. "Is Warden healer as good as Templar healer for endgame?" Both are endgame-standard; Warden brings more group buffs, Templar brings stronger raw throughput and the Purify synergy.

"Help with morph choices for a Templar healer." Common picks: Breath of Life (double-target burst heal), Extended Ritual (purges up to 5 effects and 30-second ground heal), Channeled Focus (Major Resolve plus 242 Magicka every second), and Practiced Incantation (8-second group heal ultimate). "Is Extended Ritual worth it for Templar?" Yes for the extra cleanse and longer uptime; Ritual of Retribution is the damage-dealing alternative that turns it into 435 Magic Damage every 2 seconds.

"Does the Templar Illuminate passive work on myself and allies?" Yes — casting a Dawn's Wrath ability grants Minor Sorcery to you and your group for 20 seconds. "How does Magelight affect Templar spells and healing?" Magelight is a Mages Guild ability granting Major Prophecy (spell crit); it boosts your damage and healing crit but isn't a class skill. "Is vampire worth it for a Templar healer? / How to save my vampire Templar healer build." Vampire's cost-reduction-at-low-health can help sustain but adds a fire-damage vulnerability — many healers skip it now that class sustain is solid, but it's a valid preference, not a mistake.

"How to heal Veteran Shipwright's Regret hardmode / questions about Templar healing in veteran dungeons." Keep Extended Ritual down for cleanse-heavy fights, hold Practiced Incantation for burst windows, and slot Rune Focus for your own Major Resolve. The class handles vet dungeon healing comfortably; the difficulty is fight knowledge, not the toolkit.

Templar tanking and PvP

"Can a magicka Templar tank / can a Templar tank dungeons / is Templar a viable tank in Blackwood?" Yes, though it's not the most-picked tank class. "How does Blazing Shield work on Templar? / question about Blazing Shield Templar PvE." It grants a Health-scaling damage shield absorbing up to 4800, growing 10% per enemy hit up to 60%, and when it expires it explodes for 33% of the damage absorbed as Magic Damage — that's why it's used both as defense and as AoE. Radiant Ward absorbs up to 4958 and scales the bonus up to 120% for group tanking.

"How does a Templar tank pull enemies / what do Templars use to break out of turtle mode?" Focused Charge (and its Explosive/Toppling morphs) is the class gap-closer and taunt, dealing 1392–1799 Magic Damage, applying a 15-second taunt, and granting Major Protection (-10% damage taken). "Which secondary ultimate for Templar tank?" Nova/Solar Prison for Major Maim (-10% enemy damage) is the class pick; many pair it with a weapon-line ultimate.

"Help with Templar PvP build / is magicka Templar still good for PvP and dueling?" Templar remains a strong PvP class on the back of Radiant Oppression as an execute, Living Dark for defensive counter-pressure (heals 2066 and slows attackers), and Purifying Light for delayed burst plus group healing. "Why use a melee weapon on magicka Templar in PvP? / why do Templar healer PvP builds use sword and shield?" Sword-and-shield gives block mitigation and survivability while you support — it's a defensive choice, not a damage one.

"Can the Templar Backlash be reflected by Dragonknights? / does self-debuffing increase Templar reflected damage?" Backlash is a mark that detonates based on damage you deal to the target over its window — it isn't a projectile in the usual sense. Reflect and self-debuff interactions are edge cases we won't state as fact without confirmation; test in a duel before relying on it. "How does Explosive Rebuke work on Templar?" That's not a current Templar ability name in the data — you may be thinking of Explosive Charge, the AoE Focused Charge morph.

Sets, gear, and monster helms

"What is the class set for Templar?" Wrathsun (from Infinite Archive) is the Templar class set: its 5-piece stacks Sunlight on Dawn's Wrath hits for Magicka Recovery, and at max stacks your Templar skill-line abilities deal 25% bonus damage (10% versus players) and cast a Wrathful Nova — but Sunlight expiring at max stacks costs you 50% of current Magicka, so it rewards uptime discipline.

"Which two starter sets for a magicka Templar grinding endgame gear / what sets do I want for a magicka Templar PvE / whats BiS?" We won't hand you a specific two-set list as gospel because the meta shifts each patch — the honest answer is to run a crafted damage set plus a strong overland or trial set while you farm, and check current written guides (they update per patch). "Is there an addon to quickly change gear?" Yes — gear-swap managers exist; see our addons guide.

"Which monster set for a stamina Templar / which monster set and 5-piece for a magicka Templar DD / which monster set for a Templar tank using Blazing Shield / is Mighty Chudan good for PvP Templar?" Monster-set choice is role- and patch-driven, not class-locked; a tank wants a defensive or utility helm, a DD wants a damage proc, and Chudan's Major Resolve is a solid PvP survivability pick. We won't quote set numbers we can't verify. "Questions about Templar, Valkyn Skoria and DoTs / can a shock glyph proc Ilambris via Templar skills?" Proc monster sets trigger off damage type and direct/DoT rules — Templar's many Magic and Flame ticks generally can proc them, but exact interactions depend on the set's tooltip.

"What pairs with Deadly Strike / what to run with War Maiden / how is Spinners on a PvP magplar / will Ravager be good for stamina Templar / is Scathing Mage any good?" These are all set-synergy questions whose value swings with each balance patch — pair damage sets that match your damage type (War Maiden boosts magic damage-over-time, Deadly Strike boosts channeled/DoT). Verify current bonuses before committing gold.

Leveling, solo play, and returning players

"How to proceed as a level 34 Templar / help leveling my Templar from 40 to 50 / help with Templar leveling skills." Slot at least one ability from each class line so all three level together, and keep an ability slotted even if you don't spam it — the skill lines gain XP as shown in the class data (each line takes a large cumulative total to max, so consistent slotting matters). Use Puncturing Sweep to self-heal while questing.

"How to make Templar more solo friendly / how to play magicka Templar solo / returning magicka Templar needs solo PvE next step." Puncturing Sweep (heals 25% of damage), Rune Focus (Major Resolve), and Repentance or Restoring Aura for sustain make Templar one of the more forgiving solo classes. "Magicka nightblade or magicka Templar for solo questing?" Both solo well; Templar is tankier and simpler, Nightblade has higher burst and stealth.

"Does my Templar's Experience robe get more XP in PvP? / how does a level 11 Templar make gold?" Experience gear boosts XP from kills generally; PvP kills count but questing is usually faster. For early gold, sell crafting mats and loot — there's no class-specific gold trick. "Is it safe to reroll a Templar? / tips on switching from Templar to Nightblade." Rerolling is safe but you lose that character's progression; with the subclassing system you may be able to keep a Templar and borrow other lines instead — see our subclassing guide before deleting anything.

"Why does my low-level Templar out-damage a high-CP Templar? / why is my two-handed Templar getting wrecked?" Usually a scaling or rotation issue — battle-leveling inflates low-level stats, while a high-CP character with poor gear or missing buffs underperforms. Fix uptime and gear before blaming the class.

Templar remains one of ESO's most complete classes — a top-tier healer, a strong damage dealer through Jabs and the execute, a workable tank via Blazing Shield, and a durable solo class. When numbers aren't published we've said so; check tooltips in your own build for exact values, since they scale with your stats and the current patch.
