How provisioning actually works

"How do provisioning recipes work?" You learn a recipe once (it's consumed), which permanently adds it to your known list on that character. At a Cooking Fire you then combine the required ingredients to produce food or drink. Recipes are separate from motifs — they don't stack in your inventory before learning and they aren't account-wide.

"Are recipes account wide?" No. A learned recipe is known only by the character that read it. This is why players on low-level alts "can't see higher level recipes" they learned elsewhere — knowledge doesn't transfer between characters.

"Can you deconstruct recipes?" and "Can you delete learned provisioning recipes?" There is no deconstruction for recipes, and once a recipe is learned you cannot un-learn or remove it — it simply stays on your known list.

"How can I see which recipes my character knows?" and "Where can I see learned recipes outside crafting stations?" The provisioning station's crafting menu shows knowns, and "why can I not see unlearned provisioning recipes" — because the station only lists what you've learned. For a full browse outside a station, players rely on addons like the ones covered in our addons guide.

"Does leveling provisioning give experience to your main level?" Crafting inspiration feeds the Provisioning skill line, which has 50 ranks and a total of 3,667,895 XP to max — it does not add to your character (account) level.

Leveling provisioning and its passives

"What is the fastest way to level provisioning?" and "Best way to level provisioning": crafting higher-tier recipes and burning ingredients gives inspiration. The single biggest gains come from provisioning writs — see the dedicated Master Provisioner note below. Early ranks are cheap: rank 2 needs only 640 XP, but ranks climb steadily to 211,320 XP for the final rank.

"How many fish to level provisioning from 1 to 50?" There's no fixed fish count in our data — leveling is measured in inspiration XP (3,667,895 total across 50 ranks), not item count. Fishing is just one ingredient source.

"How to level provisioning without huge gold cost" / "How to level the provisioning profession": lean on daily writs and hireling-supplied ingredients rather than buying mats. The Forager Hireling passive (learned at rank 48) sends more ingredients daily with a better chance at higher quality.

"Does provisioning with Chef and Brewer skill give four items?" Yes — Chef (rank 33) creates 3 extra servings per food recipe and Brewer (rank 36) creates 3 extra servings per drink recipe, so one craft yields 4 servings.

"Why don't I have the Master Provisioner achievement at rank 50?" Reaching skill rank 50 is separate from the achievement, which tracks learning recipes, not skill XP. "How do I become a certified provisioner?" — certification comes from the intro writ questline at a crafting NPC, not from skill rank.

"What gives more provisioning inspiration?" Higher-quality and higher-tier recipes give more inspiration per craft than white low-level ones — prioritize the best recipe your Recipe Improvement rank allows.

CP160 food, quality tiers, and skill gates

"What CP level is needed to craft CP160 food?" The character CP requirement is a stable gate, but the crafting requirement is the Recipe Improvement passive: it allows making up to Champion 150 recipes and is learned at Provisioning rank 50.

"What determines the level of provisioning items?" and "How can you tell what level recipes are?" The recipe itself carries the tier/level requirement, and your Recipe Improvement rank sets the ceiling you can produce.

"Why can't I use gold recipes?" The Recipe Quality passive (rank 50) is required to use Legendary (gold) recipes. Without it, purple is your ceiling.

"How long do food buffs last?" Crafted blue, purple, and gold food and drink buffs last 2 hours. Most purchasable blue food (like Salmon-Millet) lasts 1 hour, and white food lasts 35 minutes. ESO Plus does not change buff duration.

"What do the Connoisseur and Gourmand passives do?" Gourmand (rank 43) adds 20 minutes to any eaten food; Connoisseur (rank 47) adds 20 minutes to any consumed drink.

Food and drink buffs — the real numbers

"Is there food or drink for stamina and stamina recovery?" / "Why are there no stamina provisioning recipes?" There are: Lava Foot Soup-and-Saltrice is a Stamina + Stamina Recovery drink (Max Stamina +4,936, Stamina Recovery +493, 2 hours), and Dubious Camoran Throne gives Max Stamina +2,856, Max Health +3,094, Stamina Recovery +315.

"What are the health regen recipes called?" The standard endgame gold tri-stat, Bewitched Sugar Skulls, gives Max Health +4,620, Max Magicka +4,250, Max Stamina +4,250, and Health Recovery +462 — a health-recovery tri-stat.

"Which food gives max magicka and stamina recovery?" and "Which food is similar to Crown Restorative Meal?": tri-stat foods buff all three Max stats plus a recovery. Bewitched Sugar Skulls is the go-to; Artaeum Takeaway Broth covers Health+Stamina with both recoveries (+406 Health Recovery, +338 Stamina Recovery), and Clockwork Citrus Filet covers Health+Magicka the same way.

"Can you still get the Witchmother's Potent Brew recipe?" and "Does anyone have the Witchmother's Potent Brew recipe for sale?" The recipe still exists; the drink gives Max Magicka +2,856, Max Health +3,094, Magicka Recovery +315 for 2 hours. It is a seasonal (Witches Festival) source item, so availability spikes around that event.

"Is there an inexpensive food recipe for max health, stamina, and recovery?" A blue 2-stat food like Solitude Salmon-Millet Soup (Max Health +5,395, Max Magicka +4,936) is cheap but only 1 hour. Ghastly Eye Bowl is a Magicka + Magicka Recovery drink (+4,592 / +459). Pick two-stat items when you want budget over duration.

"How do I make Lingering Health tri-stat potions?" That's alchemy, not provisioning — "question about alchemy and provisioning" comes up a lot because the two are confused. Tri-stat potions are brewed at an Alchemy station from reagents; provisioning makes food and drink.

Finding recipes, ingredients, and specific itemscommunity

"Where do I find recipes?" / "How to get provisioning recipes": recipes drop from lootable containers (barrels, crates, cupboards, backpacks) across the world, and many are also sold by grocer/chef merchants. "Where can I find a recipe for roast chicken / baked apple / soup / the baked potato" — these are container/vendor drops; rarer ones (baked potato is famously scarce) come only from world containers, so there's no fixed vendor.

"Do you get furnishing recipes from pickpocketing?" Yes — pickpocketing NPCs can yield recipes and blueprints, and "where to pickpocket vampires for coffin blueprint" points to the same mechanic: certain NPC types drop themed plans.

"Where do I get white meat / game meat / poultry / mutton flank / cheese / garlic / rice / jazbay grapes?" Ingredients come from the same world containers as recipes; "what determines the provisioning materials you find" is largely the container and zone, not a guaranteed vendor. Some basics are sold by grocers.

"How to get provisioning ingredients faster" / "Good locations to farm provisioning materials": the reliable steady stream is hireling deliveries plus looting every container as you quest. "Is there a vendor that sells provisioning materials?" — grocers sell some staples, but not the full range.

"Where can I find Pristine Water?" and "Which zones have relevant water for provisioning?" Water is a drink base gathered from water sources; the tier scales with the zone, so "which zones have relevant water" depends on the recipe tier you're brewing.

"What do I do with rare fish / unfilleted fish — what category is it under?" Fish and Perfect Roe are provisioning Ingredients (Perfect Roe is a quality-5 ingredient prized for the rarest recipes). Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl even increases the chance to catch rarer fish while active.

"Why is every rare furnishing item sorted under provisioning?" / "Is there anything other than provisioning items in containers?" Containers are a shared loot pool, and the game's inventory filters group many crafting-consumables together — so furnishing recipes and provisioning items can appear side by side.

Furnishing recipes and blueprints

"Where to get the Formula/Blueprint for Alinor furnishings?" Alinor blueprints (like the Alinor Armchair or Alinor Bed line) are Woodworking-based furnishing recipes that require Recipe Improvement ranks to craft — for example Blueprint: Alinor Bed, Polished Single needs Recipe Improvement 1 and Woodworking 6. They drop as world/pickpocket loot in their themed zones.

"Are there Imperial furniture recipes?" / "Is there a list of Morrowind furniture recipes?" Themed furnishing recipe lines exist per culture (Alinor, Argonian, Ashlander, Breton, and more in our data). Morrowind/Ashlander examples include Blueprint: Ashlander Cup recipes. "How to farm Morrowind / Clockwork City furnishing recipes" — farm the matching zone's containers and pickpocket pools.

"Does master writ vouchers give Morrowind recipes?" and "What can Writ Vouchers buy?" Writ Vouchers, earned from Master Writs and shared account-wide since Update 15, buy furnishings, Furnisher Documents, recipes, and motifs from Rolis Hlaalu and Faustina Curio.

"Where do I get the hourglass furnishing plan / Lamae Bal statue recipe / coffin blueprint?" These specific named plans are zone-locked container or pickpocket drops (and some are voucher-purchasable). Our data doesn't list a fixed vendor for each, so treat named plans as rare loot unless found on Rolis/Faustina.

"What are the furnishing recipe books?" Books like the Conservatory Furnishing Book or Hearth Recipe Book are quality-5 Master Writ items that teach an entire furnishing category at once when read.

"Why can't I buy the druidic provisioning station?" Crafting-station furnishings are typically voucher or event purchases with prerequisites; if it's not appearing, you likely lack the required unlock or voucher balance.

Provisioning writs and Master Writs

"How do I do my first daily provisioner writ?" / "How can I complete provisioning writs?" After certification, pick up the daily at the writ board, craft the listed food/drink at a station, and turn it in. "Can I cancel and repick a provisioning daily writ?" — you can abandon and requeue the daily, but you get one per day per character.

"Is it worth running enchanting, provisioning, and alchemy writs?" / "Are enchanting, alchemy, and provisioning worth it?" Dailies are quick, low-cost gold and a chance at Master Writs. Provisioning writs are among the fastest to complete once you know the recipes.

"Do Master Provisioning Writs really exist?" Yes — Master Provisioning Writ is a real quality-4 Master Writ described as "an exclusive, secret contract for victuals of rare quality."

"Why are the provisioning master writ drop rates so low?" / "Which recipes affect master writ drop chance?" Master Writ frequency rises with overall tradeskill mastery — for provisioning that's knowing more recipes. "Does learning furniture recipes affect crafting writ drop chance?" and "Does learning more recipes help?" — yes, broader recipe knowledge is one of the mastery inputs that raises your Master Writ odds.

"Is there any benefit to provisioning and alchemy master writs?" They reward Writ Vouchers, which buy the furnisher/recipe/motif catalog. That's the main payoff.

"Why are there no provisioning surveys?" Surveys are a resource-node system tied to gathering crafts (Blacksmithing, Clothing, Woodworking, Jewelry). Provisioning has no nodes to survey, so it has no surveys.

Selling, pricing, and profitabilitycommunity

"Is provisioning profitable?" / "How to make gold as a provisioner": the money is in selling stacks of endgame gold food (like Bewitched Sugar Skulls) and in selling rare recipes, not in the writs themselves. "What is more sought after, food or drink?" — tri-stat food dominates PvE demand, but stat-specific drinks sell steadily too.

"How much are recipes worth?" / "Need help pricing a purple recipe": there are no fixed prices in our data — value tracks rarity and demand, so check a current trading-guild price addon. "Are blue recipes worth anything?" — common blues are low value; rare purples and gold recipes carry the price.

"How to sell epic recipes without tanking the price" / "Best way to sell recipes": list single copies across guild stores rather than dumping a stack, and space out listings so you don't undercut yourself.

"What to do with level 35–40 purple recipes?" If they're common, they're minor gold; if they're a sought-after named recipe, list individually. Rarity, not level band, sets the price.

"Which questlines reward motifs or recipes?" Several zone and DLC questlines grant motif pages or recipes on completion — check a questline's reward list before assuming it's random loot.

Psijic Ambrosia and special recipes

"How do I unite the Psijic Ambrosia recipe fragments?" / "Where to find Psijic Ambrosia recipe": the recipe is assembled from fragments; "why are Psijic Ambrosia glass fragments marked as trophy not recipe" — the fragments are trophy-type items until combined into the actual recipe.

"Does provisioning need to be level 50 for Psijic Ambrosia fragments?" Combining fragments and using the recipe follows the same quality/improvement gates as other high-tier recipes, so a fully-ranked provisioner (Recipe Improvement and Recipe Quality at 50) is the reliable state for crafting it.

"Is it worth upgrading Psijic Ambrosia recipe to mythic?" and "How to lower the price of the fragments": that's a market-demand judgement; our data doesn't carry a price, so weigh the XP-boost value against current fragment costs in guild stores.

"Why can't I craft Jewels of Misrule drink?" Event and seasonal recipes often require the matching event ingredient or a quality/improvement rank you haven't reached yet — check the recipe's stated requirement at the station.

"Does the recipe quality improvement skill change what hirelings send?" / "Does increasing recipe quality points improve hireling items?" The Forager Hireling passive is what improves ingredient quantity and quality; the Recipe Quality/Recipe Improvement passives govern what you can craft, not hireling deliveries.
