Guild Traders & Selling in ESO — Every Real Question, Answered
Last reviewed 2026-07-20🎮 Works on console (no add-ons)
ESO's player economy runs entirely on guild traders — and it confuses almost everyone, from returning players to people trying to list their first item. This guide is built from 69 real questions mined from the official ESO forums, grouped into themes and answered plainly. Where the mechanic is well-known and stable we say so; where a specific number would be a guess, we answer qualitatively instead.
The basics: how the whole system workscommunity
"How do guild stores work" / "how does the guild trader system work" / "how does the guild trading post work": ESO has no central auction house. Instead, trading guilds rent NPC kiosks (guild traders) scattered across the world, and only that guild's members can list items at the guild's trader. When you shop at a trader, you're browsing one guild's inventory; when you sell, your listing shows up only at your guild's trader.
"Is there an in-game auction house" / "is there an auction house website" / "are there any good auction house sites": There is no in-game global auction house by design. Third-party price-tracking sites exist that aggregate guild-store data (usually fed by an addon), but ZeniMax doesn't run an official one, and we won't endorse a specific site as 'good' — check that any tool is current before trusting its numbers.
"Are guild kiosks run by real guilds or AI": The trader NPC is a fixed vendor, but its stock comes entirely from a real player guild that won the right to rent that spot. So it's real guilds, real players, real listings — the NPC is just the storefront.
"How does the economy work around guild trading": Prices float freely because there's no central pricing — each guild's location, foot traffic, and member base affect what sells and for how much. High-traffic hub traders command premium rents; quiet traders are cheaper to shop at but harder to sell from.
Buying from traderscommunity
"How to buy from guild traders" / "how do i buy from guild traders" / "where can i go to sell and trade stuff": Walk up to any guild trader NPC (they're in most towns and many overland spots), interact with it, and browse. You can filter by category and buy instantly — no bidding, no waiting.
"Can you buy Wizard's Riposte set gear from guild traders" / "which guild trader sells Buoyant Armiger motif" / "how do I find fish in the guild trader": In principle any tradeable item can appear at some trader — the problem is finding which one right now. Because there's no unified search, players rely on price/scanning addons that record inventories as they browse, then let you search across guilds you've visited. Without a tool, you're checking traders one at a time.
"Why can't I deconstruct jewelry bought from guild traders": Bought gear behaves like any other gear of its type. If it won't deconstruct, the usual causes are that it's bound, that you lack the jewelry crafting line/rank required, or that it's a set piece flagged in a way that blocks it — not something unique to buying it.
"What happens to bind-on-equip set gear in guild stores": Bind-on-equip gear stays tradeable until someone equips it. You can buy and resell it freely; once equipped it becomes bound to that character/account.
"How do sixth house pieces sort in the guild store" / "what section are master writs found in on guild traders": Items sort into the store's built-in categories, which can be unintuitive for niche items. When something sorts oddly, it's usually filed under its item type rather than its lore name — use the category filters and, ideally, a search addon to jump straight to it.
Selling: getting your items listedcommunity
"How do I sell my stuff" / "how to sell in guild store" / "how do I post items for sale" / "how can I sell to guilds": You must be in a trading guild that has a hired trader (or at least a guild store you have sell rights in). Open the guild store, go to the Sell tab, pick an item, set a price, and list it. It then appears at that guild's trader for other players to buy.
"How do I access our guild store" / "how do I get to the guild store" / "where is the trade broker": Open your Guild menu and select the guild, then the store tab — or interact with the guild's trader NPC. You don't need to travel to the trader to list; you can sell from the guild UI. There's no separate 'trade broker' NPC in ESO the way some other games have.
"Can't list an item in the guild store" / "can't sell on guild store even with permission, how do I fix": The common blockers are: the item is bound/untradeable, you don't actually have the sell permission (rank permissions in ESO are per-rank, so double-check yours), the guild has no active trader, or you've hit your per-guild listing limit. If you have permission but still can't, confirm the guild currently owns a trader — without one, you may only be able to list into an internal store.
"Why can't you sell bank items in guild stores": Listing pulls from inventory you can access in that context. If an item is in a storage location the store UI can't reach, move it to your backpack first, then list it.
"Why can only guild members sell at guild traders": That's the core design — traders are guild-owned. The guild rents the spot, so only its members can stock it. It's what keeps ESO's economy decentralized instead of one giant auction house.
Pricing, fees, and the house cutcommunity
"How do I price items when selling in the guild store" / "how to see how much items sell for in chat" / "how do I see how much items sell for": ESO gives you no built-in price guidance. Players price by comparison — either scanning other traders, checking a price-tracking addon/site, or asking in guild chat. Some addons post recorded sale prices to chat; the base game doesn't.
"What do guild traders sell for on average in Wayrest" / "where can I find a cheap busy guild trader": Averages vary constantly by item, patch, and location, so we won't quote a figure that would just be a guess. High-traffic hub cities (like the well-known Rawl'kha, Mournhold, and Wayrest kiosks) tend to have busier traders and more competitive prices; quieter zones are cheaper to shop but slower to sell in.
"How do guild store fees work" / "a question about guild store fees" / "how does the house cut work when selling": There's a listing fee taken when you post an item (refunded/absorbed depending on outcome per current rules), and a sales tax cut taken from the sale price when it sells. We won't state exact percentages here because they aren't in our source data — the game shows you the fee and your net proceeds before you confirm a listing, so read that screen.
"How do guild trader bids work": The 'bidding' in ESO is guilds bidding weekly to rent trader locations, not players bidding on items. Guild leadership places gold bids for a kiosk; the highest bid for that spot wins it for the week. Players never bid to buy an item — all purchases are buy-it-now.
Listing limits, duration, and managementcommunity
"How many items can I sell per guild": There's a per-guild listing cap, and it scales with guild membership size — bigger guilds unlock more listing slots per member. Because the exact numbers aren't in our source data, check your Sell tab, which shows your current used/available slots.
"Can I set how many days I list items in the guild store" / "can I set how many days I list items": Listings have a fixed maximum duration and expire automatically if unsold; you don't choose a custom number of days. Expired items return to you — you just relist.
"How do I remove guild store listings": Open the guild store's listings/your-sales view, select the item, and cancel the listing. Note that the listing fee generally isn't refunded on manual cancellation.
"Can you bundle items for sale at the guild vendor" / "can I bundle items for sale": You can list stacks of the same stackable item as one listing, but you can't bundle different item types into a single mixed lot. Each distinct item is its own listing.
"Can I sell achievement furniture on guild stores": It depends on whether the specific furnishing is flagged tradeable. Many furnishings are sellable, but achievement-locked or bound rewards often aren't — if the item won't appear as listable, it's bound.
"Do guild traders have an item level limit" / "how do I list only veteran items in the guild store" / "how do I sell only veteran items": There's no separate item-level cap on what you can list. Filtering by level/quality is a browsing feature on the Buy side; on the Sell side you list what you have. To surface only high-level gear to buyers, price and describe accordingly — buyers use the store filters to find it.
Finding a guild's trader and leaving a guildcommunity
"How to find the current trading location of a guild by name" / "how do I access our guild store": Trader locations rotate weekly via the bidding system, so a guild can be somewhere different each week. The most reliable way is to ask your guild (leadership posts the current spot), or use a trader-locator addon that maps which guild is where.
"What happens to guild store items when leaving a guild" / "what happens to items in a guild store after you quit the guild": If you leave (or are removed from) a guild, your active listings there are removed and, per the current system, returned to you rather than lost — but don't rely on that as a strategy; pull your listings before you go to avoid any hassle.
"How do guild stores work in other alliance areas" / "how does the public guild store work in PvP": Trading is faction-agnostic in PvE — you can shop any accessible trader regardless of your alliance. In Cyrodiil, the situation is different (see the PvP section below).
Purchases, receipts, and the mailcommunity
"Where is my attached guild store purchase" / "where are the guild store items I bought" / "where can I go to sell and trade stuff": Items you buy at a trader go straight into your inventory at purchase — they are not mailed. Sale proceeds when your items sell, and unsold/returned listings, arrive via in-game Mail. So check your bags for purchases and your mailbox for sales income.
"Is there a way to see how much I have purchased in guild store" / "is there a way to see how much I've purchased": The base game doesn't give a lifetime purchase ledger. Tracking your total spend requires an addon that logs your transactions.
"Question about the guild store shopper achievement": Shopping-related achievements track purchase activity toward set thresholds; keep buying and they progress automatically. We don't have the exact tier numbers in our source data, so check the achievement's in-game tooltip for its current requirement.
Cyrodiil, updates, and the search problemcommunity
"Why is the guild store option missing from Cyrodiil bankers" / "why are there no guild stores at the Cyrodiil bank" / "why can't we access guild stores in Cyrodiil": Guild store access is intentionally limited in Cyrodiil — the campaign banker there does not offer the full guild store the way city bankers/traders do. This is by design for the PvP zone, not a bug.
"How long until the new sets appear in guild stores" / "how long until new sets show up": As soon as players start farming and listing them — there's no server delay. New sets appear at traders once real players decide to sell drops, so supply (and low prices) builds up over the days following a release.
"Why is there no search function for guild stores" / "why can't I search guild stores": ESO deliberately has no cross-trader search in the base game — it's the single most-requested economy feature. The only practical workaround is a scanning addon that records inventories as you browse and lets you search what you've seen.
"Why are guild traders always empty": An 'empty' trader usually means an inactive or low-tier guild that hired that spot — or you're filtered to a category with nothing in it. Busy hub traders owned by large trading guilds are the opposite of empty; find those and stock improves dramatically.
Returning players, item identification, and getting orientedcommunity
"Question about guild traders as a returning player" / "question about guild traders" / "how does the guild store work": If you've been away, the fundamentals haven't changed: no central auction house, join trading guilds, sell at their traders, buy from anyone's. What changes over time is fee/limit tuning and which guilds hold which spots — rejoin an active trading guild and you're back in business fast.
"How to tell if a weapon is dropped, quested, or crafted": Check the item's tooltip and origin — crafted gear shows the crafter's set traits and can be researched/deconstructed differently, quest rewards are typically bound, and world/dungeon drops are often bind-on-equip and thus tradeable. Bound status on the tooltip is your quickest tell for whether it can even be listed.
"How to avoid mistakes selling on guild traders": The big ones: listing at the wrong price because you didn't check comps, forgetting the listing fee isn't refunded on cancel, listing into a guild with a dead trader, and accidentally selling a set piece you meant to keep. Slow down on the confirmation screen — it shows fee and net proceeds before you commit.
"Is there a guide to guild traders" / "question about bank and guild store UI": This page is one. For the UI itself, the two views to learn are the Sell tab (your listings, slots, fees) and the Buy/browse tab (filters). Once those click, the rest is just finding good traders and pricing well.
"What will happen to guild traders after One Tamriel": One Tamriel already happened years ago and the trader system survived it intact — zones became level-scaled but the guild-owned kiosk model was unchanged. There's no pending removal of guild traders.
