We mined 29 real questions ESO players asked about the Arcanist on the official forums and answered the distinct ones here. Where the skill data gives us hard numbers we cite them; where it doesn't, we tell you it's qualitative rather than invent a figure. Nothing here is a guessed stat.

The core mechanic: Crux, Fatecarver, and how the class 'feels'

"Does the Arcanist Fatecarver work like an automatic weapon?" Sort of — Fatecarver is a channeled beam ability in the Herald of the Tome line, not a spammable single-cast. You hold the channel and it does damage over its duration; it isn't a hitscan gun, and its strength scales with how you feed it Crux. Think 'channeled laser you set up with resource-generators,' not 'auto-attack.'

"A question about one of Arcanist's passives" — the passives all orbit Crux, the class's stacking resource (up to 3). A few concrete ones from the data: Hideous Clarity restores 225 Magicka and Stamina each time you generate Crux; Healing Tides increases your healing done by 4% per active Crux; and Erudition raises Magicka and Stamina Recovery by 18%. Crux generation is the engine — most passives reward you for keeping it flowing.

"How do I gain Ultimate on an Arcanist?" Standard Ultimate generation (damage/being hit) applies, but the class has dedicated boosts. Erudite's Rigor gives you 1 Ultimate for every Crux you have when it triggers, and Audacious Runemend grants Minor Heroism (1 Ultimate every 1.5 seconds) when you heal a low-Health target. If you want fast Ultimate, lean into Crux and healing-based sources.

Single-target DPS: is the Arcanist strong, and why isn't mine?community

"Which PvE single-target class is strongest — Arcanist, Nightblade, or Sorcerer?" There's no fixed answer we can quote from the data, and it shifts every patch. Historically the Arcanist has been a very strong, low-floor single-target class because Fatecarver does a lot of work with a simple rotation. But 'strongest' depends on the current patch, trial buffs, and your gear — treat any tier list as a snapshot, not a law.

"Why is my Magicka Arcanist not effective as a PvE damage dealer?" The usual culprits: not maintaining Crux before channeling Fatecarver, clipping the beam channel too early, missing your buff uptime, or under-penetrating on bosses. The class rewards full channels and consistent Crux — if you're re-casting the beam every second or channeling with zero Crux, you're leaving most of the kit's damage on the table.

"What's a good Magicka Arcanist beam build after the Ansuul, Tideborn Taleria, and Velothi nerfs?" We don't have current set numbers in our data, so we won't hand you a stat sheet. The durable advice: build around full Fatecarver channels, keep Crux capped, hit the penetration cap on bosses, and pick whatever the current-patch destro/trial sets are — the beam-centric core of the build survives set nerfs even when the numbers move.

"When will Arcanist be nerfed?" Nobody outside ZOS knows, and we won't pretend to. Balance is patch-by-patch. Build for the mechanics (Crux, channels, buffs) rather than chasing a specific set's numbers, and you'll survive the balance cycle better than a build glued to one overtuned item.

Crit, penetration, and Champion Points

"Advice on getting crit cap on my Arcanist" — the class helps here through buffs rather than raw stat sticks. Ink-Scribe's Verve grants you and your group Major Force (20% Critical Damage) when you heal enough, and the class set Spattering Disjunction adds up to 657 Critical Chance at 2 pieces. Crit *chance* cap is a gear-and-buff puzzle you solve with jewelry, food, mundus, and group buffs; the Arcanist mainly contributes crit *damage* through Major Force.

"Is it better to put Champion Points in Magician or Arcanist?" This is a Champion Point star question, not a class one — pick the star that matches your resource pool and rotation. If you're a Magicka Arcanist channeling Fatecarver, cost-reduction and damage stars that support sustained channeling win out. There's no universal answer; match the star to how your resources actually drain in your rotation.

"Is Focused Efforts worth it for Arcanists in Infinite Archive?" Focused Efforts (the IA/CP-style boost to your slotted damage) tends to pay off for a class that leans on a small number of hard-hitting abilities like Fatecarver. In Infinite Archive's stacking-buff environment, anything that amplifies your primary damage skill compounds well. Worth taking if your damage is concentrated in one or two abilities — which the Arcanist's usually is.

Healing: skills, morphs, and the beam

"Which is the better healing skill for Arcanist?" It depends on the fight. Remedy Cascade is the beam heal (11310 Health over 4.5s base); its Cascading Fortune morph heals up to 50% more on badly-wounded targets, while Curative Surge grows stronger the longer you channel (up to 192% more at the end). Cascade morphs are your throughput; Runemend is a fast targeted heal that also generates Crux. Pick Cascading Fortune for reactive burst healing and Curative Surge for sustained tank healing.

"Which is better — Languid Eye or Tide Eye for the Arcanist Ultimate?" We can't verify those specific names against our data, so we won't rank two things we can't confirm. What we can confirm about Arcanist healing Ultimates: Vitalizing Glyphic summons a glyphic you heal to grow stronger — Glyphic of the Tides spawns higher (53% vs 30% Health) and adds Major Protection at full Health, while Resonating Glyphic is the damage-fed version for DPS. For a healer, Glyphic of the Tides' extra survivability is the safer pick.

"Can a Stamina Arcanist work as a PvP healer?" It can function, but the healing kit is Magicka-costed (Runemend, Chakram Shields, and the Domain skills all cost Magicka), so a Stamina build fights its own resource pool as a dedicated healer. It's playable in a bursty hybrid PvP role, but if healing is your main job, a Magicka setup aligns with the class's ability costs far better.

"Is Arcanist skill worth it for Magicka Templar?" With subclassing, borrowing an Arcanist line is viable — the standout pickups are the Crux-fed healing/shield tools and the strong buff Domain. Whether it beats a Templar's native kit depends on what gap you're filling; grab it for the shields or the Fatecarver channel, not as a blanket upgrade.

Stamina Arcanist: race, banner, morph costs, and viability

"Is Argonian Stamina Arcanist a good choice for a new character?" Argonian's resource-return and healing racial passives are forgiving for a new player, and Stamina Arcanist is a fine first class. It's not the min-max race for Stamina DPS, but for a first character learning the ropes, the sustain safety net matters more than a few percent of theoretical damage. Perfectly good choice.

"Has anyone made a Stamina Arcanist / is it good for solo PvE and group play?" Yes, it's a real and playable build. The Herald of the Tome line offers Stamina morphs — Abyssal Impact costs 2984 Stamina and Cephaliarch's Flail (its morph) also costs 2984 Stamina and heals you for 1000 on hit while generating Crux. That self-heal-plus-Crux flail is the backbone of a Stamina Arcanist's solo survivability, and the class works in groups too.

"What are the Arcanist Stamina morph costs?" From the data: Abyssal Impact and Cephaliarch's Flail each cost 2984 Stamina. Note that its third morph, Tentacular Dread, flips to 3510 Magicka and Frost damage — so the Stamina-costed options are Abyssal Impact and Cephaliarch's Flail specifically.

"What to put on the banner for Stamina Arcanist?" The 'banner' (Champion/scribing choices aside) question comes down to your resource pool — stack Weapon Damage, Stamina sustain, and penetration to match a Stamina channel build. We don't have a specific banner stat table in our data, so build toward your Stamina-costed flail rotation rather than a fixed number.

"How to improve DPS consistency for Stamina Arcanist in PUGs?" Consistency comes from Crux discipline: enter fights with Crux ready, commit to full Fatecarver channels instead of panic-recasting, and use Cephaliarch's Flail both for damage and its 1000 self-heal so you don't get knocked out of your rotation. In PUGs, staying alive and channeling fully beats a flashier rotation you can't maintain.

Solo and off-meta builds

"Looking for an off-meta Arcanist solo build" and "help with a Magicka Arcanist solo build" — same core answer. The Arcanist is one of the most solo-friendly classes because so much of the kit self-sustains: Cephaliarch's Flail heals on hit, Chakram Shields (3068 damage absorbed base, 6 seconds) give you a self-shield, and the Domain skills buff your Weapon/Spell Damage by 215 plus recovery. Build around Fatecarver for damage, a shield for defense, and the flail for on-demand healing, and the class practically solos itself.

"Should I play Necromancer or Arcanist?" and "which role is most enjoyable for the Arcanist?" — both are preference calls we won't fake data on. The honest framing: Arcanist rewards a simple, satisfying channel-and-Crux loop and is exceptionally strong solo and as a DPS/healer; Necromancer has a more resource-juggling, corpse-driven identity. As for the most enjoyable Arcanist role, the class is beginner-friendly as a DPS (few buttons, big beam), flexible as a healer, and capable as a tank — pick DPS first if you're unsure, it's the smoothest entry point.

"What are the most common Arcanist builds?" Broadly: a Magicka Fatecarver-beam DPS, a Stamina flail/beam DPS, a Crux-fed healer built on Remedy Cascade and shields, and a tank using the Soldier of Apocrypha line. The beam-DPS variants are far and away the most common because the rotation is forgiving and the damage is concentrated.

Tanking, taunts, and dynamic resources

"Does Toxic Barrage taunt bosses?" We can't confirm that ability against our Arcanist data — it isn't in the class kit we have, so we won't state whether it taunts. What we can say: for an Arcanist tank, use a confirmed taunt (Runic Jolt from the Soldier of Apocrypha line is the class taunt tool) rather than relying on an AoE to hold aggro. Never trust a DoT to taunt a boss.

"What do you think of Arcanist dynamic resource selection?" The kit genuinely supports hybrid builds — abilities scale off your higher offensive stat, and passives like Hideous Clarity return both Magicka and Stamina (225 each) on Crux generation, while Erudition boosts both recoveries by 18%. That dual-resource design makes the Arcanist one of the friendlier classes for hybrid/dynamic setups; you're not punished for not being a purist.

PvP: countering, and specific fightscommunity

"How to hard counter an Arcanist?" The class's damage is beam-channel dependent, so the counters are the obvious ones: break line of sight to cut the channel, use burst that ignores or bypasses shields (Chakram Shields absorb 3068 base for 6 seconds — a shield-breaking burst window beats it), and apply pressure that forces them off the channel. An Arcanist locked into Fatecarver is committed; make them stop channeling and their DPS collapses.

"How to beat Zelvraak the Unhallowed as Arcanist in Graven Deep?" We don't have this fight's mechanics in our data, so treat this as general advice, not a scripted solve: lean on the Arcanist's self-sustain (Cephaliarch's Flail's on-hit heal, Chakram Shields for spike protection) to survive mechanics, save your channels for safe windows rather than forcing them during heavy add or AoE phases, and use Apocryphal Gate's mobility to reposition. The class's forgiving survivability is your biggest asset in tough solo/arena content.

The through-line across all 29 questions: the Arcanist is beginner-friendly, self-sustaining, and built around Crux and full channels. Where we quoted numbers they came straight from the skill data; where we didn't, it's because the honest answer is 'it depends on the patch' — build for the mechanics, not for one set's stats, and you'll stay strong through the balance cycle.
